The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has officially mandated Glauk Konjufca to attempt to form the country's new Government, following the proposal made to her by the Vetevendosje Movement. This decision of the President comes after a tense political period and after consultations with the largest parliamentary entity. In a press conference held after the meeting with Vetevendosje representatives, Osmani said that the Constitution of Kosovo does not require a guarantee of votes before granting a mandate, but rather assesses the likelihood that the proposed candidate can secure a majority in the Assembly.
"Nowhere in the Constitution are guarantees required, only possibilities are required, and there is a big difference between a guarantee and a possibility. The guarantee is given in the Assembly, which is why votes are required there, while possibilities are offered in my office," declared President Osmani.
She announced that during the meeting with representatives of the Vetëvendosje Movement and Glauk Konjufca, she was convinced that they have full confidence that they can provide the necessary support for the formation of the Government.
"VV and Glauk Konjufca have full confidence that they can reach the necessary votes, but that is up to them. It is up to me to convince them that they have a chance, and they have convinced me that they have a chance, as required by the Constitutional Court's ruling. If there had been no proposal at all, we would have had a completely different situation," Osmani stressed.
This decision by the president officially paves the way for the second attempt to form a new government in Kosovo, following recent political developments that led to the need for a reform of the executive.
