Kosovo authorities have detained a member of the Serbian Police at the Jarinje border crossing, which connects Kosovo with Serbia, on suspicion of unauthorized import of ammunition and unauthorized possession of weapons and explosive materials.
Kosovo police did not release the name of the arrested man, but confirmed that he is a dual citizen of Kosovo and Serbia, and was arrested on Saturday morning. The suspect was taken into custody while authorities conduct investigations into him.
According to the Kosovo Police daily report published on Sunday, 51 cartridges, 9,900 euros in cash and 26,000 Serbian dinars were found and confiscated in the suspect's vehicle, with Serbian license plates.
"Personal documents were seized from the suspect, including an identification card with the Serbian Police badge, a Serbian Police union card, a Serbian and Kosovo ID card, a Serbian passport, a pair of uniform epaulettes, a pair of gloves and a USB," the statement said.
His arrest comes a few months after another action by Kosovo authorities, when two members of Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs were expelled from the country on suspicion of threatening national security, and banned from entering for five years in June.
The Serbian Government's Office for Kosovo stated at the time that Kosovo had expelled a total of 11 members of the Serbian Police from its territory. However, Kosovo authorities have not disclosed the exact number of Serbian MUP members who have been expelled so far.
