The Vetëvendosje Movement has nominated its leader, Albin Kurti, who is also the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, for another term at the head of the Government.
Kurti was proposed by unanimous vote at the 59th meeting of the LVV General Council.
The Vetëvendosje Movement won the most votes in the February 9 parliamentary elections in Kosovo, winning 48 seats in the Kosovo Assembly – insufficient to form a government on its own.
The LVV made this decision just a few days after the Constitutional Court of Kosovo imposed a temporary measure, through which it prohibits MPs from taking action to develop any procedure for the formation of the new Government of Kosovo.
The measure will be in effect from September 5-30. It has been criticized by the LVV, which has called for moving forward with the formation of a new government.
While proposing Kurti, LVV vice-chairman Glauk Konjufca criticized and blamed other major Albanian parties for the institutional crisis.
"This year we saw the most dangerous attempt to not recognize the election result, with or perhaps without awareness, the political parties that have declared themselves opponents of the Vetëvendosje Movement since the certification of the elections, have tried to say only one thing, just one vote less than 50 percent and the state remains without an Assembly."
