Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić declared that the protesters in Novi Sad were being helped by "European scum who came to destroy our country" and that they would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Serbia.
"Go and destroy your countries. Don't destroy Serbia. You scum. And you're not even scum, you're worse than that. That's all I have to tell you. Are we afraid? Not at all. I respect Ursula von der Leyen.
"I respect Antoni Kosta. And these scum from the European Green Party, the worst scum in Europe who came to Novi Sad tonight to support this violence, I have to tell them only that they will be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Serbia. And nothing more than that. Nothing less, but nothing more," Vučić said.
Commenting on the citizens' rallies, he said that less than 10,000 people participated in anti-government protests across Serbia and that in Novi Sad there were more than 7,000, N1 writes.
He added that the Serbian police were doing their job and that they did it in a strictly professional manner, and that 11 police officers were injured.
