The Socialist Party has boycotted the meeting of the Council of Mandates and Immunity which was called by members of the DP. In a statement to journalists, the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, said that the 3-week deadline to give the deputy prime minister time has expired.
According to him, the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, should explain why he is not convening the Council to review SPAK's request to remove Balluk's mandate.
"With full responsibility that the situation dictates to us and as members of the mandates council, the 5 members of this council requested a council meeting to follow up on SPAK's request for the lifting of Belinda Balluku's immunity. Our request is based on the Assembly's regulation, which should be the only legal document. The Speaker has the duty to announce the Council meeting and the agenda. Today marks three weeks since SPAK requested permission to arrest Balluku, and today marks three weeks since the SP members are hiding as those who have violated the law. This is an unprecedented act, where the council takes 3 weeks to review a request," he said.
Bardhi also said that the DP is preparing a criminal report for abuse of office against the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi. According to Bardhi, there is no reason or alibi for Peleshi not to convene the Mandates Council, for which he said they will request a meeting again.
