The Democratic Party has officially addressed the Central Election Commission with a request for electoral equipment, in function of the process for electing the party's chairman, a race where only one candidate remains: Sali Berisha.
In the document signed by organizational secretary Ervin Minarolli and recorded at the CEC on May 6, 2026, the DP requests:
* 30 ballot boxes,
* 100 secret voting rooms,
* 700 plastic security seals for the boxes.
The letter states that the materials are necessary to "guarantee the required standards of election administration, transparency and security of the voting process."
The request comes at a time when the race for the leadership of the DP has practically turned into a formal process, after Mereme Sela's alternative candidacy was disqualified and Sali Berisha remained the only candidate in the race.
The political irony that is also being commented on on social networks is precisely related to the fact that ballot boxes, secret rooms, and security seals are being required for a process where the result is known in advance and where the membership will vote without really having another alternative.
