A debate about the pollution of the Buna River and Lake Shkodra has produced a new political clash in Shkodra, this time with ironic tones between the socialist mayor Benet Beci and the two district deputies, Marjana Koçeku of the Socialist Party and Kliti Hoti of the Democratic Party.
After the joint appeal of the two MPs for the protection of Buna and Lake Shkodra, Beci reacted publicly, implying that their concerns are more for media consumption than for real problems that have not been resolved.
The Mayor of Shkodra recalled that the project for the Wastewater Treatment Plant is already financed by the European Union, the German and Swiss governments through KfW and is in the works procurement phase.
According to Beci, the project envisages the construction of a modern water treatment plant, the rehabilitation of the main pumping station, the construction of the main transmission line and the underground passage of the pipeline under the Buna with micro-tunnelling technology, according to European Union standards.
But the most political part of the reaction was the irony towards the MPs, with Beci stating that he "understands the desire of the new MPs to make news", but added that their energy would be more valuable if it focused on problems that have not yet been resolved and not on projects that, according to him, are already in the concrete process of implementation.
