In Monday's speech, Sali Berisha called on his supporters to prepare for a protest immediately after the end of the electoral process within the Democratic Party, a process where he is the only candidate for party leader.
Speaking to supporters, Berisha used strong tones and hinted that the opposition is entering a new phase of political confrontation with the government.
"So, I understand, you all have a question in your mind, when is the next uprising? The first few days after the end of the party processes. Nothing in the world will stop us in our mission without removing the narco-dictator and his regime from power. Without returning to Albania the free vote, hope, faith, the future of Albanians," he declared.
The statement comes as the Democratic Party is conducting a formal election process for the mayor, where the only name in the race is Berisha himself. Despite the lack of a real competition, an organized campaign and voting process has been taking place in the blue headquarters for days, heralded as a "reconfirmation" of his leadership.
