At yesterday's meeting, the State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi, approved the decision on financial compensation for the political entities, the Socialist Party, the Democratic Party, the Together Movement, the Albania Becomes Movement, the Opportunity Party and the Euro-Atlantic Coalition Party. These parties received compensation after they managed to secure over 1% of the valid votes in the elections of May 11, 2025.
According to the decision of the Central Election Commission, the total fund dedicated from the state budget to finance the election campaign was 150 million lek. Based on Article 88, point 2 of the Electoral Code, the compensation was set at 94 lek for each valid vote received by parties that exceeded the 1% threshold.
In this context, the largest share was received by the Socialist Party, which is the winner with 53.29% of the votes and received 79,935,000 lekë. While the Democratic Party with 32.91% of the votes received 49,365,000 lekë.
Small parties such as Arlind Qori's Lëvizja Bashke also benefited from the "cake" with 1.53% of the votes, 2,307,418 lekë.
The Albania Movement coalition of Adriatik Lapaj and Endri Shabani, which received 4% of the votes, 3,884,362 lekë. It remains to be seen how the two mayors, who have been arguing for weeks about who will receive the only parliamentary seat they won on May 11, will divide the money. Let's hope that the same clashes will not be repeated in this case.
Another party that benefits from the CEC is Lulzim Basha's Euroatlantic Coalition Party. Although it failed to secure a single parliamentary mandate, this political force managed to secure 1.30% of the votes nationwide, thus securing 1,963,190 lek from the party budget. Immediately after the CEC's decision, its chairman Lulzim Basha reacted for the first time, changing his profile and cover photos on his Facebook page. It should be noted that since the end of the elections, he has not appeared publicly or spoken to the media, and even closed the party headquarters he had on "Donika Kastrioti" street.
Also on the list of beneficiaries are the parties of Agron Shehaj and Tom Doshi, who respectively benefited: Partia Mundësia with 3.05% of the votes 4,601,488 lekë and PSD with 3.10% of the votes 4,650,000 lekë. Symbolic figures compared to the assets they have declared in the ILDKPI, which also serve to cover electoral campaigns.
