A serious incident was recorded a few months ago in Northampton, where a 30-year-old Albanian, Sajmir Beca, lost his life after a tragic accident with a garbage truck.
The incident took place in the early hours of the morning of October 31 last year, on Wellington Street. According to court testimony, the driver of the vehicle stated that he heard screams after a man was knocked over by a garbage bin inside the truck and crushed.
Beca suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, but died on November 6 as a result of her injuries.
The Northampton coroner's office said the cause of death was damage to vital organs. His family, who travelled from Albania for the hearing, stressed that he was not homeless.
Coroner Anne Pember stated that it remains unclear why the 30-year-old was inside the trash can, ruling the death accidental.
For his part, the truck driver, Stephen Plowman, said he had checked the bin and only saw cardboard on the surface. He added that after he had emptied the bin and activated the compression mechanism, he heard screams.
"At that moment I saw him, he was looking at me and I kept telling him 'get out'. I immediately pressed the emergency button and called the emergency services," he stated, adding that the incident has caused him trauma and fear of returning to work.
Northamptonshire Police confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, and a full report has been submitted to the relevant authorities.
