The Tirana Prosecution Office has completed its investigations and sent Lebanese citizen Fadi Alwan, accused of murdering his daughter, 24-year-old Rayyan Alwan, to trial. He will face the charge of "murder under aggravating circumstances," a criminal offense that carries a life sentence.
The 49-year-old was arrested in Lebanon on April 23, 2025, while Albanian authorities had imposed the security measure "arrest with imprisonment" on him in absentia. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has announced that Lebanese authorities have refused his extradition to Albania.
According to the investigation, the father and daughter had come from Germany to Tirana in February 2025. The serious incident is suspected to have occurred in the apartment they rented, while the 24-year-old's lifeless body was discovered a few days later by the apartment owner. Meanwhile, the suspected perpetrator had fled to Lebanon immediately after the crime.
The motives for this incident remain unclear. The victim, a divorced mother of three, had started a new life in Germany. According to investigative sources, her approach to the Western lifestyle is suspected to have led to constant conflicts with her family. She had also filed a report with the authorities in Germany about these problems.
Investigators are continuing to verify the possibility of other people being involved in the crime, including the victim's mother, although so far there is insufficient evidence to support this lead.
The 24-year-old's body remained in the Tirana morgue for several months and was only retrieved a few days ago by a legal representative from Lebanon. She was then accompanied to her last residence in Germany by her two brothers, where she is buried.
