The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, has stated that the United States must fulfill its commitments set out in Islamabad's memorandum of understanding before Tehran takes steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Qalibaf stressed that Iran does not rule out the diplomatic path, but considers it part of the broader confrontation with the US and Israel.
According to him, the memorandum signed on June 18, after the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, provides for the cessation of hostilities, navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the continuation of negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Qalibaf's statements come at a time when the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic sea routes, remains conditional on the implementation of the commitments provided for in the agreement.
