One of the footballers who was declared world champion with Spain in 2026 has decided to give up his bonus for triumphing in the tournament, requesting that the amount be transferred to the employees of the Spanish Football Federation.
The news was announced by the Spanish newspaper "AS", which reports that the player has preferred to remain anonymous and does not want his identity to be made public. According to the report, it is about a sum of about one million euros, which the footballer decided to donate as a sign of gratitude to the employees who stood behind the scenes during the long journey to the world title.
According to the agreement reached before the World Cup between the players and the Federation, bonuses would be determined depending on the national team's performance in the tournament. With Spain reaching the title, the players' remuneration increased significantly. "AS" previously reported that the 26 players gathered for the tournament were guaranteed a bonus that, after the triumph, was calculated at around 756 thousand euros per player, while the new report describes the amount given up by the player as close to one million euros.
The decision was taken as a sign of gratitude to the Federation's employees, who were committed to the organization, logistics and daily functioning of the team during the preparations and the tournament. Spain's training camp lasted almost two months and, in addition to the players and technical staff, a large number of employees worked behind the scenes to guarantee the necessary conditions for the team.
