Electricians are dying on OSHEE poles: three victims in a few months and still

This morning, in the village of Trojas in Belshi, another OSHEE electrician lost his life in the line of duty. Klajdi Zekthi, 32, came into contact with electricity while working to repair a line and died on the spot.

This is the third case in 2026 where an electrical grid employee loses his life while working. And when deaths are repeated with the same pattern, on the pole, on the line, in the field, then we are no longer talking about a simple accident. We are talking about a safety system that is not protecting its people.

In February 2026, in the village of Rrilë in Lezha, an OSHEE electrician, reported in the media as 27-year-old MP, lost his life after coming into contact with electricity while repairing a defect in a pole. Following the incident, four other OSHEE employees were prosecuted for violating technical safety regulations.

On July 22, in Himara, Bashkim Boçi, 55, an employee of OSHEE for many years, lost his life. He was working to restore power after the storm, when his safety belt allegedly came off and he fell from a 9-meter-high pole. This case was also presented as a tragedy in the line of duty, but the question remains the same: who is responsible when an employee goes out into the field in dangerous conditions and dies?

Another serious case was reported on September 11 in Margllic, Patos, where 46-year-old electrician Ermal Debrova, from Elbasan, lost his life near a fallen electric pole. Some media outlets report that he worked for a private company operating in the area, so this case cannot yet be officially included in the OSHEE balance, but it makes the problem even clearer: safety in electrical works in Albania has become a black spot.

Every announcement says "he came into contact with electricity", "he fell from the pole", "he was repairing the defect". But behind these formulations lies a chain of questions that no one is following to the end: was the power cut on the line? Was there a documented work order? Were the safety devices checked? Did the teams work with full protocol or under pressure to restore power as quickly as possible? Is there a real administrative investigation, or only posthumous proceedings?

OSHEE cannot only remember its employees when it publishes field engagements, action plans, or investment announcements. If three electricians lose their lives on duty within a few months, the problem is no longer simply an “accident.” It is an institutional alarm.

In a normal country, after the first incident there would be an audit of safety protocols. After the second incident, suspensions and an internal investigation. After the third incident, responsibility cannot remain with the employee who can no longer speak.

OSHEE's poles are taking lives. And if every death ends with a condolence message, then the problem is not just with the power, but with a system that sends workers into danger and then calls a tragedy what should have been prevented.
