With 113 votes in favor, Democrats and Socialists — as the song says — joined the votes for the agreement that brings Albania and Edi Rama to the Peace Board led by US President Donald Trump. Redi Muçi of the BASHKË Movement abstained, as the representative of the only party that held a somewhat different position from the servile chorus of Albanian politics on the initiative of the US president.
Although for several days in a row Sali Berisha, MPs, officials and the media close to him attacked and criticized in various ways the invitation addressed by Trump to the Albanian government, the fact remains that Berisha and Rama once again voted together to ratify an agreement "in the air", which does not have a single line defining what it is really about and what Albania's role will be in it.
But what importance does this have in the face of the fact that the DP and the SP must show Albanians that, in the race to be as close as possible to the global power, they are always very close to each other, violating every human and civic morality, not to mention political morality.
Sali Berisha, sanctioned non grata by the State Department, threw away the flag of sovereignty by embracing every statement and stance to protect the interests of Albanians “at all costs”. Even after the public humiliation that Edi Rama inflicted on him live in Parliament, Berisha and his deputies did not hesitate and voted without thinking twice for a no-deal agreement, just to convince their supporters that they are pro-American.
Without any principled stance on the agreement in essence, without a political stance on what the Peace Board represents, without an ideological axis on the stance that EU states have towards this project, the Albanian opposition joined the SP and its servility in today's vote.
Adding another brick to the already high wall of agreements with the majority, where morality and consistency have become the mortar that holds up the barricade that keeps citizens' trust that the Albanian opposition is different from the party that has been dragging Albanians down for 13 years under the leadership of Edi Rama.
