The international news agency Reuters has reported on the setting of the date for early elections in Kosovo, which will be held on June 7, 2026.
According to Reuters, Kosovo's acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, announced the date for new elections on Thursday, the third in just over a year. This situation comes after the parliament failed to elect a new head of state.
Reuters reports that the vote is deepening a political crisis in Europe's newest country, which has been operating without a fully functioning government for much of last year. A divided parliament has failed for months to elect a speaker of the assembly, blocking institutional processes.
Further, Reuters quotes Haxhiu's statements after the meeting with political leaders, where she emphasized that the country is wasting precious time in reform and decision-making processes.
"We are late with reforms for no reason. We cannot afford to waste time," she said, appealing for more responsibility and institutional functionality in the coming period.
