Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who led the landmark investigation into alleged collusion between Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and the Russian government, has died at the age of 81.
"It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Bob passed away last night," his family said in a statement.
The family announced last August that Mueller had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2021.
The Robert Mueller investigation was a criminal investigation into associates of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in connection with Russian interference in the 2016 United States election, and was conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller from May 2017 to March 2019.
