US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News today that he is likely to talk to Iran, but added that it depends on the conditions.
When asked about the possibility of negotiations with Tehran, Trump said he had heard that "Iran is very eager to talk."
The Republican also reiterated his dissatisfaction with the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's new supreme leader, saying:
"I don't think he can live in peace."
He also stressed that the results of US military operations in Iran have been "beyond expectations," repeating comments he made earlier in the day during a press conference.
Trump noted that he was surprised that Iran was hitting Gulf countries with missiles and drones.
For his part, the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, stressed that the country "is not afraid" of Trump's "empty threats," responding to the US president's statement that the US would hit Iran "harder" if Tehran blocked oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
"Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Those more powerful than you have tried to eliminate the Iranian nation and have failed. Be careful not to be eliminated yourself!" Larijani wrote on the "H" network.
