As protests against the Iranian regime have escalated significantly in recent days, Steve Witkoff, former US President Donald Trump's special envoy, has held a secret meeting with Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the last Shah of Iran.
According to international media, Witkoff and Pahlavi discussed the grave situation in Iran, where unrest has caused over 2,000 casualties, according to preliminary reports. This is considered the first high-level meeting between representatives of the Iranian opposition and the Trump administration since the protests began about 15 days ago.
Reza Pahlavi is trying to position himself as a transitional leading figure in the event of the fall of the current regime in Tehran, however he does not enjoy widespread support within Iranian society.
Earlier, Donald Trump publicly called on Iranian citizens to continue the protests and occupy government institutions, declaring that "help is on the way."
The situation in Iran remains tense, while international reactions and political developments are being closely followed.
