Russia continued airstrikes on Ukraine overnight, just hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a "very constructive" phone call with Donald Trump's negotiating team after three days of talks in Florida.
Kremenchuk Mayor Vitaliy Maletsky reported that the industrial city in central Ukraine was hit by a "massive combined attack" that caused water, electricity and heating outages for some residents. No casualties had been confirmed as of Sunday morning.
On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that it had shot down 77 Ukrainian drones in several regions.
The latest attacks come as diplomatic efforts have intensified. Detailed talks between Ukrainian and American delegations were held in Miami, aimed at crafting a peace plan acceptable to both sides. Zelensky said talks with Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner had addressed ways to ensure Russia abides by any future agreement.
European countries are seeking to persuade Washington to support their proposals for comprehensive security guarantees for post-war Ukraine, including discussion of a possible peacekeeping force - an idea that Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected, considering any such troops a "legitimate target".
In a joint statement on Saturday, U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators urged Russia to show “serious commitment to long-term peace.” Witkoff and Ukraine’s new top negotiator, Rustem Umerov, said they had agreed on a framework for security arrangements and discussed preventive measures to ensure a lasting peace.
