About 100,000 people have fled Tehran in the first two days of airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, the UNHCR said. According to the UN refugee agency, population movements are mainly internal and there has been no significant increase in cross-border crossings so far. The situation at border crossings, including Islam Qala, remains relatively stable.
Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka, causing dozens of casualties. US officials also said that Iran has reduced its missile launches at targets in the Gulf region.
Military operations, launched on February 28 in parallel with Israeli attacks, are expected to continue, while international organizations warn of a possible increase in the number of displaced people if the conflict escalates further.
