The US Department of Justice has begun releasing more than three million pages of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. US authorities have called the release one of the largest ever, comparing the volume of material to “about two Eiffel Towers with pages.”
The documents include photographs, email exchanges – most of which are redacted – as well as detailed information on Epstein's numerous properties and the circumstances of his death in a New York jail cell in 2019. The release also includes video of the cell where he was held before his death.
Among the most sensational developments are photographs that appear to show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in a compromising position with a woman. Also, leaked emails show that Epstein and his publicist had asked Sarah Ferguson to issue a statement describing him as “not a paedophile” after she distanced herself from him in a 2011 interview.
Other documents suggest that Andrew invited Epstein to Buckingham Palace in 2010, shortly after the latter was released from house arrest for soliciting prostitution from underage girls. In another email, billionaire Elon Musk appears to ask Epstein about the possibility of visiting his private island, calling it a “wild party.”
Authorities stress that the inclusion of names in the documents does not automatically imply a violation of the law. Many of the people named in previous publications have denied any criminal connection to Epstein.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has reiterated his call for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to testify before the US Congress about his relationship with Epstein. He stressed that putting victims at the centre requires a willingness to share any information possible.
"Epstein's victims must be the first priority," Starmer declared, adding that the issue of a public apology remains in Andrew's hands.
The publication of documents is expected to continue in the coming days, as authorities and the media are examining the materials page by page, searching for new facts about one of the darkest scandals of recent years.
