The President of Syria, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, has issued a new decree confirming and strengthening the rights of Syrian Kurds within the framework of a united and inclusive Syrian national identity.
According to the decree, the Kurdish language is officially recognized as a national language alongside Arabic, while the traditional holiday of "Newroz" is declared an official national holiday. This decision is considered an important step towards recognizing Syria's cultural and linguistic diversity.
The decree also repeals all exceptional measures stemming from the 1962 census, guaranteeing the full restoration of Syrian citizenship rights for thousands of Kurdish citizens who were previously deprived of these rights.
Likewise, state educational and media institutions are instructed to adopt an inclusive national discourse, based on equality and mutual respect, and to prohibit any form of discrimination on ethnic or linguistic grounds.
This decree is seen as a historic change and a decisive step towards building a new national pact, based on justice, equality and partnership among all Syrian citizens.
