A Turkish Airlines plane flying from Istanbul to Barcelona made an emergency landing due to a bomb threat.
Flight TK1853, an Airbus A321, was scheduled to arrive at El Prat Airport at around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (15/1). Shortly before landing, authorities were notified of a possible bomb threat, leading to the immediate activation of emergency protocols.
According to a statement from Aena, "due to the threat, all security procedures were activated," while law enforcement is assessing the situation. Authorities added that the incident has not affected the normal operation of the airport.
After the safe landing, all passengers disembarked without incident, while emergency and security teams carried out detailed checks inside the plane. Spanish media reported that two fighter jets were scrambled to escort the flight to the landing, as part of standard measures for such incidents.
Investigations to identify the threat are ongoing, while so far there are no reports of any suspicious objects being found on board. Authorities announce that they will continue to monitor the situation until the full investigation is complete.
