US President Donald Trump plans to meet with top national security officials on Monday to discuss the ongoing impasse in talks with Iran, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The meeting comes after the president unexpectedly canceled plans for his top envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to travel to Pakistan for another round of negotiations over the weekend.
Officials will discuss Trump's options for moving forward, including whether to resume the US bombing campaign, which has been suspended since the president extended a ceasefire last week. Trump has appeared reluctant in public to revive the conflict.
Trump said he decided to cancel the trip because Iran had not offered a satisfactory negotiating proposal and claimed they returned after the cancellation with an updated document.
But he still seemed skeptical about sending his team on a long flight to Islamabad without a clearer picture of what concessions Iran might accept or who exactly was in charge in Tehran.
