The Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has warned that American consumers could face significant increases in fuel prices, following recent developments in the region.
In a post on social media X, he wrote: "Enjoy the current prices. With the so-called 'blockade', you will soon regret the $4-5 per gallon."
The statement comes in reaction to US President Donald Trump's order to impose a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, following the failure of ceasefire negotiations with Tehran.
Ghalibaf warned that this decision could have direct consequences on international energy markets, affecting the increase in oil and fuel prices in the US.
He also released a chart of fuel prices near the White House, as well as a technical formula, which some have interpreted as a warning of possible shocks to global oil markets.
