Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is not in Tehran and has been moved to a safe location, an Iranian official told Reuters today, as Israel announced it had carried out a "preemptive strike" on Iran.
According to AFP journalists, two powerful explosions were heard in Tehran this morning, while two columns of thick smoke rose from the center and eastern neighborhoods of the Iranian capital.
"The type of explosion indicates that it was a missile attack," the Iranian FARS news agency reported.
According to other Iranian media, explosions were also heard in the eastern and western parts of Tehran, while one of the targets of the attack is suspected to have been Mehrabad Airport.
The TASNIM agency reported that Iran's airspace has been closed, while, according to Iranian media, the mobile phone network has been down in some areas east and west of Tehran and problems with internet connectivity are being reported.
