France has confirmed that it will not join the "Peace Board" proposed by US President Donald Trump for the time being, expressing concerns that the charter of this mechanism is not in line with UN resolutions on Gaza.
A spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry stated that the document does not correspond to the framework approved by the United Nations for resolving the war in Gaza and contains elements that contradict the UN Charter.
“The document is neither consistent with the mandate for Gaza, which is not even mentioned, and contains provisions that contradict the United Nations Charter,” said spokesman Pascal Confavreux.
Paris' stance comes after statements by Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who stressed that France supports American efforts for peace, but opposes the creation of a new organization outside of existing multilateral structures.
France's decision adds to European skepticism toward Trump's Peace Board, while some countries are demanding that any initiative to resolve the conflict in Gaza remain within the framework of the UN and international law.
