Former US ambassador Peter Mandelson was arrested this afternoon by British police, as he was seen being escorted by officers outside his apartment.
The 72-year-old was stopped by officers at an address in the Camden area of London on Monday, February 23. He has been taken to a London police station for questioning.
In an official statement, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday, February 23 and has been taken to a London police station for interview. This follows the execution of search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”
Authorities have not yet provided further details on the full nature of the investigation.
