
A 57-year-old teacher has been seriously injured with a knife by a 13-year-old student at a school in Trescore Balneario, in the province of Bergamo, Italy.
The incident occurred this morning, just before 08:00, at the “Leonardo Da Vinci” institute, before the start of classes. The French teacher, Chiara Mocchi, was attacked in the school hallway by the third grade lower secondary student.
According to Italian media, the teenager was wearing camouflage pants and a white T-shirt with the word "Vendetta" (Revenge) written in red. He stabbed the teacher several times in the neck and stomach, seriously injuring her.
Three other students who were nearby witnessed the attack and were taken to psychologists for help.
The teacher was transported by helicopter to the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo, where she underwent surgery that lasted over two hours. Authorities confirmed that she is in intensive care, but her life is not in danger.
The teenager was immediately neutralized by a teacher and two school employees, who held him hostage until the carabinieri arrived. It is learned that in addition to the knife, he also had an imitation pistol with him.
The police are investigating to determine the motives for the attack, while the decision on measures against the minor is awaited from the juvenile prosecution office.
Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara called the incident "very serious" and stated that stricter regulations are needed to combat youth crime and the spread of improvised weapons among them.
