The goalless draw between Como and Roma, in the match played on Sunday afternoon at the “Sinigaglia” stadium, ended an unusual series in the Italian championship. The match ended 0-0 and was the first in the 2026-2027 Serie A season to end without a single goal, after 53 consecutive matches in which at least one goal was scored.
This streak constitutes the longest record of games without a 0-0 draw at the start of a Serie A season in almost 80 years. The last time such a run was recorded was in the 1949-1950 season, a full 77 years ago.
Back then, the streak ended in week seven, when Milan and Lazio drew 0-0 at the San Siro. This season, the record was broken in week six, with Como and Roma failing to find the back of the net.
The 2026-2027 season has had a spectacular start, with results and surprises that have made the Italian championship interesting even for neutral fans. Lazio has emerged as a surprise contender, sharing the top spot with reigning champions Inter, while Cagliari has managed to position itself among the top four teams, despite predictions that saw it in the bottom half of the table.
However, the 0-0 draw between Como and Roma was one of the most special statistics of the first weeks, ending a historic streak in Italian football.
