Arda Turan could take charge of the Turkish national team in what would be one of the most important moves of his coaching career. According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, the former Atletico Madrid and Barcelona player is expected to be appointed as the head coach of the Turkish national team.
"Arda Turan is expected to become the new coach of the Turkish national team," Schira wrote on social media. However, until an official announcement is made, the appointment remains in the context of media reports.
Currently, the 39-year-old manages Shakhtar Donetsk, a team with which he began a new stage of his career in 2025. The experience gained in European football, as well as his past as a player at the highest levels, have put Turan in the spotlight for a possible role in leading the national team.
During his playing career, Turan became one of the most recognizable names in Turkish football. He played for Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, winning important trophies and representing his country on the international stage.
Meanwhile, the situation on the Turkish bench has created room for speculation over the name of the successor to Vincenzo Montella, who has led the national team since September 2023. According to reports, Arda Turan is one of the names being mentioned for this position, but it remains to be seen whether the Turkish Football Federation will confirm his candidacy.
