The transfer of Erion Veliaj to the Fier prison has caused an unusual clash within the socialist parliamentary group, but the objective of this clash seems to be not only the clarification of the transfer procedure. The Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu, is at the center, and the question that arises is whether Edi Rama is preparing, through a political strategy, his removal.
At the parliamentary group meeting, called by the prime minister specifically for the Veliaj issue, Bledi Çuçi addressed Gogu with an ultimatum: "If you have not brought the transfer order with you, resign."
The fact that this request comes from Çuçi, one of Rama's close associates, and precisely at the meeting called by the prime minister, raises the suspicion that the MP may not have acted solely on his own initiative. Was the request for resignation a spontaneous reaction or a political message conveyed by order?
But the story becomes even more interesting when you look at who runs the prison administration. The Director General of Prisons was appointed before Gogu arrived at the Ministry of Justice and, according to information behind the scenes of the appointment, had the support of Belinda Balluku and Edi Rama. Gogu had no role in her selection and is alleged to have limited influence over this directorate.
Thus, the minister risks bearing political responsibility for a decision by the prison administration, whose director he did not choose and over which, according to this information, he does not exercise real influence.
In this context, the scenario takes on the appearance of a political trap: Rama gathers the group for Veliaj, Çuçi demands Gogu's resignation, and the minister finds himself facing responsibility for a decision he may not have controlled. If this is a coordinated strategy, then Veliaj's transfer could serve as a pretext for another move within the government.
Veliaj has publicly opposed the transfer to Fier, calling it political and claiming that the order was not made available to him. This very document has now become the cause of the clash between Çuç and Gog.
There is no evidence that Çuçi acted on Rama's orders or that the prime minister decided to dismiss the minister. But the way the meeting was conducted and the position in which Gogu was placed make the question inevitable:
Is Rama seeking Toni Gogu's head, using the transfer of Veliaj and Çuçi to place the minister in front of a responsibility that formally belongs to him, but that he may not politically control?
