US President Donald Trump is expected to lead the lap of honor at an IndyCar Series race that will take place this weekend on the streets of Washington, as part of activities for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The cars will race past some of the US capital's most famous landmarks, including the Capitol and the Smithsonian museums. The race will include 147 laps on a track about three kilometers long, while the cars can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.
Due to the high speed, organizers have taken special safety measures, welding more than 200 manhole covers along the track to prevent them from moving during the race.
Trump is expected to perform a lap of honor in his armored limousine, known as "The Beast," before signaling the start of the race by waving the green flag.
The race, called the "Freedom 250 Grand Prix," is part of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of US independence. Security measures will be strict, and spectators will be subject to metal detector checks.
