Albania has secured a vital victory on its way to the 2026 World Cup, narrowly defeating Latvia 1-0, in a match that was considered a "final" for the Rossoneri.
Our representative dominated most of the match held at "Air Albania", with the only goal being scored in the 25th minute by Kristjan Asllani, who was accurate from the penalty spot.
However, despite their lead and dominance in the game, the Rossoneri were unable to close the match with a second goal. There were plenty of chances, with Bajram, Manaj and Gjimshiti coming close to the goal, but failing to put the ball in the net.
In the final minutes of the match, the team led by coach Sylvinho looked tired and out of sync, struggling against Latvia's offensive. However, thanks to decisive interventions by goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and Manaj's return to defense, Albania managed to maintain the lead and take three valuable points.
The Rossoneri's victory, combined with England's 0-5 away triumph over Serbia, moves our boys up to second place in Group K and keeps them within the "Play-Off" zone after the conclusion of the September matches.
Hopes for a historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup remain alive, as attention now turns to the decisive matches in October.
