Marash Kumbulla is officially RCD Mallorca's newest player. The Albanian center-back, born in 2000, comes on a simple loan from AS Roma and will be part of the Spanish club until the end of the season.
In his first words as a Mallorca player, Kumbulla expressed his enthusiasm for this new step in his career:
"I'm very happy to be here. I've spoken with the director Pablo Ortells and the coach Jagoba Arrasate, and they have a lot of confidence in me. They've told me a lot about the project that Mallorca has and, when the club called me, I wanted to come as soon as possible," he said during the official presentation.
This is a return to LaLiga for the Albanian defender, who last season played for RCD Espanyol, where he made 36 appearances between the championship and the King's Cup. Now, in a new challenge with the Mallorca shirt, Kumbulla has clear objectives:
"I want to play as many games as possible and help the team reach its maximum. I spoke with the coach about what he wants, about the club, the fans and everything that Mallorca represents. I really liked it."
On the new team, Kumbulla will also find a familiar face: Kosovar striker Vedat Muriqi, whom he met during his time in Spain.
"We spoke with Vedat when I met him here, at Espanyol. I have a good relationship with him and I want to see him again soon," he revealed.
In the end, the Albanian defender also had a message for the fans of the new team: "Thank you for the hospitality. I will give everything for this badge and I want to play here, at Mallorca, together with you."
With this transfer, Marash Kumbulla becomes the first Albanian player to wear the RCD Mallorca jersey. He also has a rich career in Italian football, with experiences at Hellas Verona, Sassuolo and AS Roma.
Meanwhile, with the Albanian national team, Kumbulla has 24 official matches.
