Traders at the Macedonian market in Korça protested again in front of the city hall, opposing the decision to install new uniform tents, which they say are an unaffordable cost for small businesses.
This is the second protest in a few weeks, as traders complain about constant orders and contradictory demands from the Municipality and the Municipal Police. According to them, the rules are constantly changing and there is a lack of transparency over the decisions being made for the market.
The merchants also denounce the deadline set by the Municipality until May 19th for the installation of new tents, which they consider unacceptable. They say that the cost of the tents reaches up to 700 thousand lek and should be borne by the businesses themselves.
According to the protesters, the Municipality should take over the investment for the new tents, as many of them are facing great economic difficulties. They warn that the pressure on small businesses is increasing and that some shops are at risk of closing.
