Paolo Zampolli, the US administration's Special Envoy for Global Partnerships, has arrived in Tirana, where he held a series of meetings with various representatives.
It is learned that during his stay in Tirana, the envoy of US President Donald Trump was also received by the head of the Bektashi World Patriarchate, Baba Mondi.
The focus of the conversation between Zampolli and Baba Mondi was several issues, while the initiative for the creation of the Bektashi state was also discussed. This project has been part of the public debate since the presentation of the idea for the creation of a sovereign entity of the Bektashi Order in Tirana.
Zampolli's visit to Albania also comes on a symbolic day for the Bektashi community. The World Bektashi Patriarchate has marked the 35th anniversary of the reopening of its headquarters after the fall of the communist regime, a period during which religious activity in Albania was banned.
The meeting with Baba Mondi was not the only one on the American envoy's agenda during his visit to Tirana.
After visiting the Bektashi World Patriarchate, Zampolli also held meetings with representatives of Albanian politics. He met with representatives of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, as well as representatives of the Democratic Party parliamentary group.
Zampolli's visit and meetings in Tirana come within the framework of his role as Special Envoy for Global Partnerships in the US administration.
