Ilir Alimehmeti seems not to have given up on his dream of being the opposition candidate for the Municipality of Tirana. Even though he once tried the famous primaries process, where the race ultimately ended with Belind Këlliçi, Alimehmeti continues to speak as if the door is still open and as if the political decision is not always made elsewhere.
Asked about the upcoming local elections, Alimehmeti said that the DP and its allies will discuss the model with which they will approach the race, whether through primaries, selection or commission. He even added that he himself will be involved in this process, while the decision "remains to be seen."
In political translation, this means that Alimehmeti is ready to re-enter a race where Berisha writes the rules, Berisha appoints the referee, and Berisha ultimately blesses the candidate.
In 2022, Alimehmeti was part of the primaries for Tirana, but after the announced runoff he withdrew, paving the way for Belind Këlliç. Now, three years later, he seems to be back at the same point: waiting for the signal from headquarters and hoping that this time Berisha will see it differently.
