The Serbian army has unveiled armed quadrupedal robots during a major military exercise, just weeks after the opening in Serbia of a factory for the production of robots designed by a Chinese company.
The robots appeared during the “Victor 2026” exercise, held in the Peshter area, where they operated alongside Serbian troops. According to reports, the devices were armed with “Wasp” anti-tank missiles, automatic rifles and 40-millimeter grenade launchers. Footage showed the robots opening fire and entering makeshift buildings during the simulation of combat operations.
The robots resemble the D1 Max Pro model from Chinese company AgiBot, although it has not been confirmed whether the units used by the Serbian military were manufactured or assembled at the new factory in Šabac. President Aleksandar Vučić had announced on August 29 that the military would demonstrate armed robots designed by China within 15 days.
The factory in Šabac opened on August 29 and is part of a project by the Chinese company Minth in collaboration with AgiBot. Serbian authorities aim to expand its capacity in the coming years, producing thousands of humanoid and quadruped robots for the European and international markets.
The introduction of the new technology comes at a time when Serbia is strengthening its military capabilities and deepening cooperation with China in the field of defense. Experts, however, emphasize that the quadruped robots continue to have limitations in autonomy, reliability and range, which still makes their role in real combat operations unclear.
