Osmani thanked Syrian President Al Sharaa for the decision and for the support given to the people of Kosovo.
"With the support of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Muhammed bin Salman Al Saud, today in Riyadh we reached an agreement through which the Syrian Arab Republic recognizes the Republic of Kosovo. I thank President Al Sharaa for the decision to recognize Kosovo as well as for his support for our people," Osmani wrote in a Facebook post.
Vjosa Osmani's post:
Syria recognizes Kosovo!
With the support of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, today in Riyadh we reached an agreement through which the Syrian Arab Republic recognizes the Republic of Kosovo. I thank President Al Sharaa for the decision to recognize Kosovo and for his support for our people.
The people of Kosovo and Syria have suffered and sacrificed much to achieve freedom. Therefore, this mutual recognition today is not only of state sovereignty, but also a recognition of the sacrifice of many generations to live freely.
I thank the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for making this historic act between our two countries possible.
Kosovo is now recognized by 120 countries. Our republic is moving forward and there is nothing that can stop it!
The recognition from Syria is the third this year for Kosovo, after two African countries, Sudan and Kenya, previously recognized it.
The recognitions from these countries come after a slowdown in the pace of recognitions of Kosovo in recent years. Before them, the last state to recognize it was Israel in 2021.
Syria has now become the 120th country to recognize Kosovo, a decision that is expected to anger Serbia, which has been continuously fighting for its neighbor's independence.
