Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji reacted with a strong Facebook status after his documents for candidacy for DP chairman were not accepted, calling the decision an unprecedented act and a sign that the party is being treated as personal property.
Salianji writes that what happened today is not a procedural issue, but a moment that reveals how the Democratic Party is really functioning.
"Today an act unheard of in political history was committed: the refusal to accept the candidacy documents for the presidency of the Democratic Party. This is not simply a procedural decision. It is the clearest proof that the Democratic Party is being treated as personal property and not as a public asset built with sacrifice by thousands of Democrats," he writes.
According to Salianj, when the competition is banned, it is not the party that is being protected, but the interests of a narrow group that, according to him, is afraid of the vote and justice.
"When the competition is banned, the party is not protected, but the narrow interests of a group that is only afraid: afraid of the vote, afraid of justice, afraid of the past," he emphasizes.
The Democratic MP adds that he did not ask for privileges or an appointment, but only competition and votes from Democrats.
"I did not ask for privileges. I asked for competition. I did not ask for an appointment. I asked for votes. This is democracy and only in this way can the Democratic Party return victorious," says Salianji.
In his reaction, he describes the decision as a rejection not only of him, but of every democrat who believes in an open and competitive party.
"This is not a rejection of me, but it is a rejection of every democrat who believes that this party should be open, competitive and winning. It is practically a usurpation of functions!"
Salianji concludes by emphasizing that the battle is not for a position, but for principle and for the very nature of the Democratic Party.
"This is a battle for principle, not for office. And this battle does not end today. Because the Democratic Party is bigger than any individual who attempts to hold it hostage."
