Mereme Sela, Sali Berisha's official rival in the race for chairman of the Democratic Party, stated in an interview with Report TV that her candidacy aims to bring a new and unifying figure to the head of the opposition.
She said she decided to enter the race as soon as she learned about the criteria and immediately prepared the documents for her candidacy.
"I am committed to public health and the people, not from a political perspective. For me, it is an honor to run when a professor from a student runs. Yesterday I found out about the criteria and prepared the documents," said Sela.
Commenting on the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, she said that she does not see this process as a personal clash.
"I am a peaceful person; Skanderbeg started the war, I am not for war. If they vote for Berisha, I will shake the doctor's hand and say thank you," she declared.
Sela also emphasized that her candidacy is a personal choice and not the result of political influences.
"Get it out of your mind: I come from a big family, I was born and raised in Fushë-Krujë and no one uses me. I have my own ideas and my own values. I think a new, unifying figure is needed, so I'm running."
She added that if elected as head of the Democratic Party, she also intends to be a candidate for prime minister in the next elections.
"If I am going to be the leader of the DP, I will also be a candidate for prime minister. I will not make Berisha a minister, because we need young men," said Mereme Sela.
