The former Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Servet Pëllumbi, has passed away at the age of 89.
Servet Pëllumbi was considered one of the most important figures in Albanian politics, with a prominent role in the country's political developments since the beginning of the transition years.
He had a long career in the ranks of the Socialist Party of Albania and in the Albanian Parliament, where he also held the position of Speaker of the Parliament.
For his contribution to the political and institutional life of the country, he was decorated by President Alfred Moisiu with the "Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg" order.
Servet Pëllumbi was born on December 14, 1936 in Korça and during his career he held several mandates as a deputy, as well as key roles in the leadership of the Assembly, especially in the early years of the democratic transition in Albania.
