Deputy Minister of Interior, Xhemal Qefalia, has commented on the crime situation in the country, emphasizing that serious events such as assassinations or murders occur in every country in the world. Invited to the News24 lunch program, in front of journalist Ola Bruko, Qefalia stated that his appointment as deputy minister has no connection to the assassination that occurred near Rinas airport.
"It is an assessment made by Prime Minister Edi Rama. He approved my being Deputy Minister of Interior. It is a profile that I know. In political activity, as a member of the Security Committee, we have approved laws that you will have to follow closely. I will do my utmost to increase the elements of public security. This event is not related to my appointment. It was an action that had been underway for a long time. The meeting happened to be on that date and does not match the event that occurred at the exit of Rinas airport", said Qefalia.
Asked about the issue of public safety, the deputy minister said that Albania is no exception to the countries where serious incidents can occur, also mentioning international cases.
"These events require attention because they threaten public safety. They are events that also occur in different countries around the world. We saw in the media a few days ago the case of the attack on two soldiers at the White House, which is why such events occur. But the murder in Elbasan was discovered in record time. If there are no events, it is because there are no police. We should not focus on two events to demoralize the work of the police," he stressed.
