The Special Court of Appeal held a hearing to review the appeal of former socialist MP Jurgis Çyrbja and the other two defendants Altin Hajri and Ahmet Masha. During the hearing, the former MP requested the annulment of the GJKKO decision and the return of the criminal case for a retrial.
Through his lawyer, Çyrbja claimed that the decision of the GJKKO is unreasonable and the criminal offense of revealing state secrets is not proven, and the charge of active and passive corruption in the elections does not stand. Altin Hajri, who was tried in absentia because he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga, requested acquittal or retrial of the criminal offense of corruption in unlawful influence. Ahmet Masha also insisted on his innocence. The decision in the Special Appeal for them will be announced on April 24. Jurgis Çyrbja was sentenced by the Special Court to 3 years in prison for electoral corruption, supporting the perpetrator of the crime and revealing state secrets. His sentence was reduced to 2 years in prison due to the summary trial and he has now served this verdict and regained his freedom. Altin Hajri was sentenced to 3 years in prison, while Ahmet Masha was sentenced to 2 years and six months. The latter has also served his sentence. The charges against the three defendants were filed after the hacking of the encrypted Sky ECC application.
