On 1 December 1955, the Special Commission considered the admission of 18 new states. On 8 December 1955, the matter was referred to the General Assembly, which adopted the resolution by a majority vote.
The final vote for Albania in the Security Council, according to the resolution of New Zealand and Brazil, was 7 votes in favor (Brazil, Iran, New Zealand, Peru, Turkey, Soviet Union) and 4 abstentions (USA, France, Taiwan and Belgium).
But then, when the vote was taken for Mongolia, Taiwan voted against it and the UN blocked the admission of other capitalist countries with its vote, making the resolution invalid for Albania as well.
In this way, the issue was re-voted on December 14, 1955, and the following voted in favor of Albania: Brazil, France, Iran, New Zealand, Peru, Turkey, BS, and Great Britain, while Belgium, Taiwan, and the USA abstained.
Finally, the draft resolution was approved in its entirety. Albania was admitted to the UN, along with Jordan, Ireland, Portugal, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, Ceylon, Nepal, Libya, Cambodia, Laos, and Spain, most of which were losing countries in the war.
