Cesc Fabregas continues to keep alive his ambition to one day manage Barcelona, although he is currently focused on his project at Como, where he is building an increasingly successful career as a coach.
The Spanish coach has been a key figure in the Italian club's revival. Under his leadership, Como returned to Serie A after a 21-year absence, while last season the team secured qualification for the Champions League for the first time in its history.
Fabregas, now 39, has a contract with Como until June 2028, but the agreement contains a special clause that gives him the opportunity to leave on favorable terms if he receives an offer from one of his former clubs: Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea.
According to Sky Sport journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, it was Fabregas himself who insisted on including this clause in the contract. In this way, the Spanish coach has secured the possibility of changing teams in the event that one of the three teams with which he has had a strong connection during his career offers him an opportunity to take charge.
Despite this clause, Fabregas is enjoying a stable spell at Como. According to Marca, the Spaniard has rejected several offers during the summer, not ruling out a move away if an offer from Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea comes along.
However, the dream of managing Barcelona does not seem to be a distant possibility. The Catalan team is currently managed by Hansi Flick, with the German coach having renewed his contract in May until June 2028, with the option of extending for another season.
Flick prefers short-term deals, while president Joan Laporta had aimed for a longer contract. For now, however, the German remains in charge of Barcelona and Fabregas remains focused on his project in Italy.
In the future, however, the clause placed in his contract could make it easier for him to return to one of his former clubs. Barcelona undoubtedly remains one of the destinations that Fabregas has made no secret of wanting in his coaching career.
