The families of the two people who tragically lost their lives in Karmë i Vau i Dejës, along with residents of the area, have risen in protest in front of the local health center. Their revolt screams a painful truth, which is the lack of first aid, the lack of medical staff, the lack of ambulances and the lack of a health center.
The serious incident claimed the lives of Gjokë Deda, 46, an electrician, and Sokol Preka, 40, the owner of the bar where the incident occurred. Both came into contact with electricity while working on the network, one dying at the scene and the other a few minutes later.
But while in Vau i Dejës there is protest over human tragedy and families lament the lack of an ambulance or a single doctor, the Minister of Health, Evis Sala, continues to enjoy the heights of Olympus where she has placed herself. Recently listed in the lists of the best doctors in the world for tumors, Mrs. Sala must surely have to make a great mental effort to get down to these completely banal problems of the earth. It must be really difficult to understand that in Albania people lose their lives on the streets because there is no ambulance or a functional health center, when from the heights of elite international science things look so beautiful and shiny.
Perhaps some brave secretary in the ministry should take the minister aside and gently whisper to her that there are such aunts in this country. Because while the statistics of the minister's personal success shine in the news, the painful reality of Vau i Dejës reminds us how far behind Albanian healthcare is.
