Videos of Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton's testimonies before US lawmakers, which took place behind closed doors last week, were released to the media yesterday evening.
Their testimony before the House Oversight Committee focused on convicted sex offender financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Both Bill and Hillary have denied any knowledge of Epstein's crimes and have not been charged with any wrongdoing in connection with it.
Bill Clinton was asked about a photo released by the Justice Department showing him in a hot tub. The congressman who asked the question said the public is interested in knowing the "context" and "details" of the photo.
"I don't think I ever knew the photo was taken," Clinton begins her response.
He says he is "almost certain" the photo was taken in Brunei, at the end of a "long" trip through Asia.
“The Sultan of Brunei was a man I had known well during my eight years as President,” Clinton recalled.
He adds that the Asian leader had wanted to help with the Clinton Global Initiative, his foundation for international development, and had suggested a hotel for him to stay at during the visit.
“He said, 'I want you to stay at this hotel and I hope you use the pool.' So I did. Then I went out and went to sleep, exhausted,” Clinton says, laughing lightly.
Asked about another person in the photo, whose identity has been redacted by the Justice Department, Clinton replies twice: "I don't know who that is."
He adds that there were other people in the nearby pool, which was located next to the hot tub, and that they were part of his traveling delegation, emphasizing that there were no children present.
“I stayed in the tub for five minutes, or whatever, then I got up and went to sleep,” he says.
Asked by the congressman if any sexual activity had occurred that night, he replies no.
Bill Clinton was also asked whether US President Donald Trump should be forced to testify before the committee.
“That’s for you to decide,” he says. “But he knew it well.”
Clinton then takes the moment to comment on a personal conversation she had with Trump about Epstein, sometime around 2002 or 2003.
“[Trump] never said anything to me that would make me think he was involved in anything inappropriate with Epstein. He just didn’t. He just said, ‘We were friends and then we broke up over a land deal, a property deal.’ That’s it.”
He says the conversation took place at Trump's golf course during a fundraiser.
He says Trump must have known that Clinton had flown on Epstein's plane before.
He says Trump told him: "We had a great time over the years. But we broke up. All because of a real estate deal."
“And he said, ‘I’m sorry that happened.’ That’s it.”
Clinton is asked if she remembers who brought up the topic of Epstein.
"No, but I'd be surprised if I knew. I just don't do things like that," he replies.
Asked if Trump had provided more details about his time with Epstein, Clinton says Trump did not give the conversation "any sexual subtext."
